Glimmerdeep
Be small, and bright, in a place that wants to swallow you.
Above ground an orchard died, and its light went down the well with it. You are Mote, a spark-grub no bigger than a fingernail, and you fall after it into Wickmere: a drowned cavern where roots hang like chandeliers, silk drapes the old halls, and every candle has been snuffed. Something tall has been wading through the dark, eating lights. You find a seed that holds its flame, a line of silk and a shell as heavy as stone, and each one does more than it first seems to. The moths want light, the frogs want flies, and the heron wants every light there is, including you. Nobody speaks. Some things are hidden, and some of what's hidden hides something else.
In the demo
- Three tools, many uses. A seed you throw away that stays lit, a silk line that catches and drags, a shell that makes you heavy enough to sink.
- Wordless. The story is told by which lights are out, what the walls show once they're lit, and the music that comes in when a candle catches.
- Layered secrets. Sleeping fireflies to find in every corner, and something deeper for the patient.
- One heron. The Lamp-Eater, and what comes after it.
- Handmade. Every room drawn pixel by pixel; every sound synthesized.
